Fosters Candy

Salty sweet with a hint of intrigue

Ingredients:

17 standard twisted pretzels

1 ripe banana

1# semi sweet chocolate chips

1oz German chocolate

A fist full of almond slivers

Sea salt to taste

1tbsp butter

1tbsp brown sugar, or try what we did for added depth.  We used 15° sugar for this. (15% molasses by weight of sugar).

How:

Cut the banana into 1/4" slices.

In a bowl, stir in 1 tbsp of brown sugar, and chill slightly in fridge for 10 minutes.

In a sufficient cast iron pan melt butter to just before browning.

Add the banana slices to the pan for 2 minutes each side on medium heat. This carmelizes the sugar on and within the banana slightly. They will get slightly sticky, that's a good thing. Just use a standard metal spatula or a fork to flip them.

Return banana slices to the fridge while you melt the chocolate.

Melt the chocolate blend in a double boiler on medium heat.

This is where it gets... Challenging. Take the same number of pretzels to banana slices and coat eat lightly in chocolate by dipping them into the chocolate.

While the chocolate is still warm, apply one banana slices to each pretzel and coat in desired amount of almond slices.

Chill in fridge for 20 minutes or freezer for 10 till chocolate bind the bananas and almonds to the treat

Once they're hardened, dunk each back into the chocolate to coat each in a final sealing chocolate shell.

Sprinkle sea salt on top of each candy to desired amount.

Chill 1 hour before eating

Enjoy!

Notes:

We had almonds on hand but try your hand at cashews, pecans, or walnuts.

You don't have to seal the candies in a final coat of chocolate if you don't want to. It's your kitchen, make them however you want! We prefer morsels of candy here.

The salt is important for balancing the flavors, but not necessarily required. Our tastes are not your tastes
